Stop Weaponizing Open Records Demands
A resource for reproductive healthcare providers and allies
SWORD (Stop Weaponizing Open Records Demands) is an innovative resource developed by victims’ rights firm C.A. Goldberg, PLLC to aid abortion providers, clinics, patients, researchers, and supporters who are being attacked by anti-abortion extremists through open records laws.
Responding to New Anti-Abortion Attacks
Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, C.A. Goldberg, PLLC has witnessed a disturbing escalation in attacks by anti-abortion extremists. One concerning trend is the misuse of state and federal open records laws to acquire detailed and extremely personal information about reproductive healthcare providers, clinics, researchers, and supporters. We have seen this information repeatedly deployed in targeted, anti-abortion harassment campaigns against our clients, resulting in doxing (the publication of personal information online), intimidation, online abuse, and threats of violence.
The exploitation of transparency laws to obtain information for targeted harassment campaigns has resulted in doxing, harassment, and threats of violence. The SWORD resource gives providers, researchers, clinics, and supporters the tools they need to protect themselves.
C.A. Goldberg PLLC’s expertise and experience is in addressing the unique needs of providers and allies experiencing anti-abortion harassment.
As a victims’ rights law firm, we are on the front lines of fighting for targets of online and offline harassment, privacy violations, stalking, and blackmail all over the country. In 2017 we pioneered a practice focused exclusively on technology-enabled attacks on abortion providers. Our job is to handle threats and harassment, so our clients can focus on their important work. This means that in addition to offering full representation in litigation around the country, we also handle more discrete tasks like removing personal information from the internet, takedown of unauthorized images and videos published on anti-abortion websites, and responses to targeted harassment like abusive open records requests.
